Music of the Americas: Why Cuba holds the key

52 52 people viewed this event.

This presentation about Cuban music and how it ties into American music history will take you on a journey of sounds, tastes, and musical influences over the past hundred years.

Presenter Chaz Chambers leads Havana Music Tours and has been educated by Cubans, including his wife Yami Cabrera. Before they moved to Nederland, Yami was a professional musicologist at the National Cuban Music Research Center (Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo de la Música Cubana, Cidmuc) — a job that allowed her to work on relevant music research, lectures, articles, events, etc., making her very knowledgeable about the music industry in Cuba. This small island encourages all walks of life to study music and make their careers prosperous from making and playing music.

Chaz will cover the origins of Cuban music, its many instruments, and the cultural impact its music has had around the world. A professional drummer, Chaz will also share the many beats on a diverse set of percussion instruments.

Mocktail mojitos will be served to liven the flavors!

$10 fee to attend with a capacity for 35 attendees – please sign up here: details coming soon…
